COACH
Tony Teixeira has been involved in the game of soccer for nearly his entire life, both as a player and as a coach.
His connection to South River runs deep. Tony grew up playing the game in the same community that SR United proudly represents today, competing for South River High School before continuing his playing career in the Garden State Soccer League. During his senior year of high school, Tony led the county in assists, a reflection of the vision, awareness, and team-first mentality that would later become central to his coaching philosophy.
Over the years, his role within the game gradually shifted from player to mentor. Tony has coached players across several different age groups, from helping with local school programs to establishing his own youth coaching academy. Throughout that journey, he developed a reputation as a coach who genuinely cared about the players he worked with and the development of the teams he led.
Long before SR United existed, Coach Tony had already played an important role in the development of many of the players and founders who would eventually become part of the club.
When the idea of creating SR United first began to take shape, there was very little discussion about who should lead the team. Tony was the first person the founders reached out to.
They had experienced his coaching firsthand, witnessed the impact he had on players over the years, and trusted both his knowledge of the game and his ability to bring a group together. When Tony agreed to take a chance on a brand-new club with no history, no previous results, and no guarantees, he became an essential part of SR United from day one.
His philosophy closely reflects the identity of the club: play for one another, trust your teammates, and put the success of the group ahead of the individual. He expects commitment, reliability, and hard work from every player who represents SR United.
Perhaps his greatest impact during the club’s beginning was belief.
Entering its first season, SR United had no previous campaign to measure itself against and no established reputation to rely on. From the very first training session, Coach Tony instilled confidence in the group and made the players believe they were capable of competing together at a high level.
That belief became an important part of the club’s foundation.
Today, as Head Coach of SR United, Tony continues to lead many of the same players he once coached when they were young and inexperienced — now representing their hometown together at the senior level.
For SR United, Coach Tony is more than the man on the sideline. He is part of the club’s story, its culture, and the foundation upon which it continues to grow.
